September—Decisions
September, September, how to remember these times and feelings of our lives in September.
September has a special place in my heart. Usually it's a time when the heat of summer is fading and the nights are growing bearable. Not to mention the harvest from the garden is coming to fruition and the smell on the air is just autumnish, which isn't really a word, but it is a thing.

Soon we will be hunkering down for the winter and 'since we've got no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow'. And it will be time to think about next year. I copied from a short piece on decisions by Seth Godin. Some of the reasons we make poor decisions are:
Poor information
Shoddy analysis (including cognitive glitches and reliance on sunk costs)
Peer pressure
Manipulation
Hustle
Power imbalance
Focus on the short run
Indoctrination
Superstition
I've often said when making decisions we need to learn to ask the right question(s). In one of the expensive decisions we made in the past I would choose the reasons we made the poor decision was
Poor info
Shoddy analysis (didn't ask the right question)
Manipulation/Hustle
We were supplied with lots of info, and it was probably accurate given the right scenario, the hustle was very good. We flew to Florida to view the structure and listen to the hustle... The manipulation was the facts themselves. All of the data presented was hypothetical. It was presented as—this is how you do it—the question was, at this time who is doing this?
And we should have stepped back and listened to the one voice that said this doesn't have enough research. But many things are like that, not just not asking the right question, but not examining the motives of the seller and on our own part the buyer.
Proverbs 25:
2) It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. 3) The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable. 4) Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer. 5) Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
