Grace and Mercy

All we like sheep have gone astray.

Better to go astray like sheep than like chickens. I have had on occasion the opportunity to watch a flock or two of chickens. In a flock of chickens you have the rooster, the head of the flock, and he has several hens that he watches over and keeps in line as they wander as a group eating bugs, seeds, and whatnot.

The rooster tries to keep his hens in a group I assume because it's easier to protect them from evil predators. However, for whatever reason there is quite often one hen who as they are gathering their bounty will sashay off into a different direction than the rooster's chosen course. This causes the rooster to chase after and bring her back into the flock. Unlike sheep who seem to be mindless creatures, these hens are foolish and designing fowl who do what they do to irritate the rooster.

You may think I'm guessing here, but no, you can read it in their eyes. These hens are in the group, but their eyes are watching to see when they think their fearless leader—the rooster—is distracted. It is at that moment they're off like an escapee.

It doesn't always make a difference our reasons for doing what we do. We can be in the wrong place at the wrong time as a mindless sheep or as a foolish designing hen, yet the wrong place at the wrong time will still be the wrong place.

What's the purpose of this post? Stop being like a mindless sheep or a flat out rebellious chicken. Stop wandering off and get right with God now. There is no better time than right now to walk with God.

2 Corinthians 9:

6) But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 8) And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9) (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 10) Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) 11) Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
