Building Up

There is a difference between 'character' and 'character'.

I know people who have good character references. You know their word is their bond.

If they say they will do something they will do their best to accomplish it. Then there are people like my Uncle Matt. He was known as a character.

When I was a youngster, playing sports was considered a good way to build good character. A child learned to do their best, work as a team, and they learned how to win graciously as well as how to lose graciously.

Many things add to the building up of character. Back in my day most people went to church. Not all of course, but a majority had at least a church affiliation. That was considered an important part of a child's upbringing.

Church affiliation and attendance has now dwindled to where it isn't nearly as important to our population as it should be.

Many people don't want to hear words such as - sin, responsibility, right, wrong, good, evil. They want to live in a world where anything you want to do is fine. This isn't going to end well, because obviously there are somethings which are right and somethings which aren't.

People need to learn encouraging words like; good job, keep trying, I love-appreciate you, but also, you messed up, but don't give up...

Much of the problem is a lack of spiritual training. Instead of shipping children off to 'children's church' they need to be in the regular assembly learning how to be the next generation church.

As Young Fuzzy has said on more than one occasion, "Children need to be taught how to be adults; they already know how to be children".

"And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness." (Acts 26:24-25 KJV)
