Things That Slip Away

Our lives are filled with so many things. We are often rushed and rushing like ants in an ant hill that has just been stepped on...

I make my way across a very unused porch. At the door I notice, sitting to my right a plastic container containing stuff.

I shuffle through my mind to remember when I last saw the container or the stuff, but it had been out of sight and out of mind for so long I'd lost remembrance of it.

I'm reminded of how easy it is to let things slip away.

Some things that slip away? Friends from yesterday that no longer reflect who we are today. Family maybe for the same reason. Values?

Standards of what's right and wrong can slip out the window if they aren't held firmly in place.

I'm confused as to why the Ten Commandments are being thrown out.

Ten Commandments

You shall have no other gods before Me.

You shall make no idols.

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

Keep the Sabbath day holy.

Honor your father and your mother.

You shall not murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

You shall not covet.

Maybe because it's alright if you don't murder me, or steal my stuff. It's all fine as long as you don't expect ME to self-discipline myself. If you don't limit me from committing murder or stealing.

Like a fairy tale begining with 'Once upon a time', there was a generation that their memories are of a kinder, gentler, and in their mind at least, a better time 'in the good old days'.

When we lose the fundamental foundation we lose the good part of who we are. And in reality it's only the people who keep the principles of 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' that make the good old days good—In any generation.

Jesus, of course narrowed life and love down to two commands:

Matthew 22:37 "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38) This is the first and great commandment. 39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
