What You See

I've been there—you probably have too. It may be a vacation, traveling to some place new, and hey, I have a camera. Of course, have camera will take pictures.

Many pictures...

The picture is of a young woman on a mission trip taking a picture of something. It could be the sky and landscape or who knows what. A local youth is watching with a 'what is she doing' look on his face.

It's the same look I have when we get home and have our pictures 'developed' and get them back. With instant pictures like we have now days this isn't such a problem, but back in the day...

I would look at those pictures in which we got doubles of each pic in case we needed to share. I would wonder, what in creation was I thinking I needed two pictures of that rock wall for?

I'm sure at the time for some of the pictures there was a certain nuance that captured my interest and then there were the other ninety-eight percent.

Life is like that. A nuance here or there, but then we end up on auto pilot and out of focus.

What catches a reader's interest? As a reader myself, it is an unpredictable nuance. Something that as I'm reading reaches out and pierces my thoughts.

In Gene Stratton-Porter books it's the heirloom flavor from a time before time. Beautiful homes, beautiful people, who over-come trials and give us hope for human-kind.

In Jane Eyre it is the lonely soul making her way through the world, yet when faced with the dilemma of giving up the only glimpse of happiness she's ever had or doing the right thing, she chooses doing the right thing.

Do we only do right when it's easy? A good book ought to challenge us to be better, to inspire us to reach for the stars.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Ecclesiastes 10:10 "If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

11) Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.

12) The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself."
