Mid-Week Wanderings

We had a slow start this morning. Our midweek Bible study is on Tuesday. And most of Tuesday was wet, one way or another.

There was 2/5 of an inch of rain overnight, or from day to day. At this point everything is well watered, but we aren't overwhelmed like some of our neighboring communities and states have been.

Being well-watered means the flowers have been exceedingly lush and fragrant. This should be a good fruit year, and since apples are an every other year crop, this year is the abundant year for the apple crop.

Advice I've heard from others for marrieds:

"When a couple marry they should move five hundred miles from the nearest relative, across two rivers, one of which has no bridge."

"I told my daughter, 'don't come to me whining and complaining about your husband. If you come here, do so in peace and goodwill, not anger and malice'."

"I saw my Ma coming up over the ridge for a visit. I told her, 'if you're comin' here to cause trouble, git on back home'."

(This from my daughter:) "Mom, I'll not tell you when — and I have a spat. They say I will forget the spat, but my mom never will." (She's right on that. My little girl is always my princess...)

Odd, how family can be good or not so good. I have a family member who, when deciding whether to move back home or stay in their present home noticed that when back for a visit her husband was inclined to pick up with childhood friends where they had left off.

His male and female friends..."You can stay here in our old (childhood) neighborhood, or come with me back to our present home. It's your choice," she said.

They've been together fifty years now.

Family, our society has become ever more mobile and rootless. Why do some families—and friends— help build each other up and some tear down?

Proverbs 25:3 "The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable. 4) Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer. 5) Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
