Salt and Pepper
It has been a few years since I was a child. I can act childish at any given moment, but that isn't the same thing.
One morning when I was a child, I fried my grandfather his eggs for breakfast. Since the salt and pepper containers were in the cupboard by the stove I sprinkled what I thought was salt and pepper on his eggs.
I did get the salt right, but for some reason the cinnamon was what I picked up instead of the pepper. Thankfully, it was just a little bit of cinnamon, but...
He never said anything, and neither did I.
When I was young you ate what you were given and said thank you. Apparently grandpa had been raised the same way.
I have a cake recipe from a newer recipe book that I use for pineapple upside down cake. One day I used the recipe for some other purpose. It was tasteless. I looked to find out why—no salt.
Pepper is good in moderation, but you don't want it with all things. Cinnamon is the same. Salt is a necessary element in our diets. It is a nutrient, without it we will die.
One mountain man who lived with the Indians for a time said the one thing he really missed from 'civilization' was salt. He said he would dream of salt.
Young Fuzzy found out that not all seasonings are equal. A few months back he was going to have a bit of sugar/cinnamon toast without the cinnamon. He toasted and buttered his bread.
I had a small jar with a spoon sitting on the counter, and he put a goodly amount of the white stuff on his toast, took a bite and immediately spit it out.
I must have been on my last brain cell. I was working in the kitchen and what was going on didn't register but should have.
I watched him put that white stuff on his toast as I thought about sugar, even though the little voice kept trying to tell me something.
I have sugar in the sugar sack, and salt in the little jar...
Young Fuzzy keeps accusing me of trying to 'do him in'. I am not. Even the time I was cloroxing the water pitcher and forgot to tell him... he has a long memory, but I'm innocent.
I tell you, I'm innocent. Love my Buddy.
