Some Days

'As I travel through this pilgrim land towards the setting of the sun...' So the song goes.

It brings to mind that as I travel through life many people come into my life. Some stay, some leave.

A few weeks ago we had friends visit at Sunday morning worship. These friends were part of our start on the journey of our Christian life forty-seven years ago.

Charles gazed around the church building, 'Lots of memories in this old building,' he said.

We had both witnessed many baptisms, vacation Bible studies, church services—Old Fuzzy and I had been married there. Many dear friends have departed from that congregation, yet are present in memory.

Friends are blessings from God and though they may leave our presence they don't leave our heart.

Some years ago Old Fuzzy and I returned to an area we had lived and served in to attend a funeral for a friend. We were greeted by some acquaintances we had seen for some time.

'You're looking good,' someone politely said.

Now, I'm not quite addle-pated. Health-wise I've seen better days, and I know I've looked much better. And as I've said I have an honesty bend that knows no bounds.

I'm fixing to say something about the inconsistency of their greeting and reality when one of the women in the group (a very discerning woman) seeing what I was about to do—'Just say thank you,' she says with a knowing look.

"Be able to discern your Judas from your Peter...Peter had a bad day, Judas had a bad heart. Peter you restore, Judas you release."

'Gift of Discernment'

John 21:15 "So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 16) He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 17) He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
