What Speaks To You
One of the things a writer is accused of is 'having a voice'.
This isn't a bad thing. It's what marks between your favorite author and just joe blow out there.
But everyone, whether a writer or not, has a voice. And whether we're a reader or not we all have a favorite author we listen to.
There is the author that tells us, 'do what makes you happy'. Somewhat like my KonMar moment. Or the persevere author that tells us if we push on through and just keep working at a project we'll reach happiness.
Very seldom do we hear, 'do what makes others happy'. Self-sacrifice isn't in style, and it often doesn't end well—unless you're Mother Teresa.
"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not come. We have only today."
"It's not about what you do, but how much love you put into what you do, that counts."
"I have never seen war before, but I have seen famine and death. I was asking (myself) what do they feel when they do this? I don't understand this."
Mother Teresa
All of these quotes are from Mother Teresa. All of these cause me thoughts. The second one I agree with, but only with conditions. Some people are delighted with doing evil. As the last statement says, I don't understand this. My mind doesn't turn there.
There are many people of renown in the history of this world. Some have moved us toward goodness and some have moved us toward annihilation.
It is the voices we listen to, the voices we follow that influence us. It may be the written or spoken word. It may be purposely or without knowledge.
Choose wisely—Who speaks to you?
