In My Hand

Grandmother's saying, "You have the world by the tail," I'm sure was supposed to impress upon our young minds how lucky we were and that the world was our pearl. All we had to do was grab it and hold on. It was always the second part of that saying that worried me:

"on a down hill slide". Life is an intermingling of happenings to us, and happenings from us.

As the meme says, 'we aren't given a good life or a bad life. We are given a life and it depends on how we use it.'

2 Kings 7:3 "And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?"

These four leprous men were in a dire situation. They normally lived in limbo because of their affliction. Neither part of the city, but now they couldn't even get food from the city...

There was a siege going on, the city was surrounded by an enemy army. No coming out or going in, no food inside the city. And here the men sat.

What to do?

2 Kings 7:4 "If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die."

Seemed like a plan, and it worked. This story begins in chapter six of 2 Kings. To read how it worked, go to the Old Testament and the book of 2 Kings, chapters six and seven to get the entire story.

I enjoy reading about history and how things worked in days gone by. As we go day by day we are writing history. Our history, and the history around us.

So as you go from day to day watch what your writing and watch the downhill slide.

Exodus 4:2 "And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod."
