Even the Crowns

As I've mentioned before, a writer is required to do quite a bit of research at times. Recently, while searching for information, I came across a picture of a stunning young woman with the caption: Princess Fawzia of Egypt,

The link above is a short montage of pictures of the princess/queen. The one below is taken from the article about her life. I'm not talented enough to put up the actual picture that I came across.

Her first marriage was an arranged marriage with the prince of Iran. They had a baby girl, and she lived in Iran for several years.

Life in a royal family can be difficult, and life as an out of favor person, even a queen in a royal family can be more than difficult.

She became ill, and a member of the Egyptian court was dispatched to check on their princess (who had become a queen). The ambassador brought her back to Egypt to recover and her marriage was brought to an end.

She married an Egyptian military man, they had two children and lived a quiet life. Even after her family was deposed as rulers in Egypt, she and her husband remained in Egypt.

In 1976 a royal visit to her villa by her now grown daughter gave Fawzia cause to return to the palace. in Alexandria that had been her home as a child.

It must have been a Deja vu moment when, during her brief visit, she led a tour of what had been her palace at one time, more than twenty-four years earlier.

She told the group as they toured her old home, "Twice in my life, I lost the crown. Once I was the queen of Iran, and once I was the princess here." Then she smiled. "It's all gone now. It doesn't matter."

"When you visit the tombs of kings and queens, you see they leave everything behind," she said the day she led her visitors through her old palace, "even the crowns."

The one time empress of Iran, died in Alexandria and was buried in Cairo.

This is one facet of why research is so fascinating for me. Meeting people, reading about their lives, and seeing their perspectives.

How poignant. Princess Fawzia was correct about the leaving everything behind. Being a child of the King of Heaven is the only time you send your crown...and your treasure on ahead.

Ecclesiastes 2:9 "So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. 10) And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.

11) Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun."

Matthew 6:20 "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21) For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
