Faucets Versus Drains
"Sometimes a diamond, sometimes a stone..."
Refilling our source isn't always easy. The story is told of back in the days when preachers visited the church members who were sick or absent of a Sunday service. One older man had been absent for more than one Sunday, and the preacher dutifully showed up, concerned for his parishioner.
After determining the man hadn't been ill, and also being told the old man didn't want to hear a lecture, the two men sat in front of the fire place where a nice fire was burning.
As they sat there, the preacher took one of the fireplace tools and pulled a brightly burning coal out of the midst of the fire and left it on the edge of the fireplace all by itself.
He began to inquire about family, the weather, farming practices and all of the social things he could think of. The conversation at last stalled and the two men sat looking at what had been a brightly burning coal. It had turned into a dark lifeless lump.
"I need to get along to my next visit." The preacher rose to leave.
The old man rose and walked him to the door. "Thank you for your visit...the point is taken, Brother," he said as the preacher bid him farewell. "See ya on Sunday."
Bible reading, Bible study, prayer, and fellowship one with another. All are required to refill our spiritual reservoir. Daily living will drain us of our supply if we allow it. Do not let your salvation slip away.
