Tribe?
A few days ago I shared One Girl's Rant about finding our tribe. Misty's take on tribe is slightly different than Seth Godin's. I think in both instances they are right.
"The realization that the tribe is already there, just waiting for you to contribute, is energizing. And the fact is that while we get the benefit of the doubt—that the tribe is open to hearing from you—they’re not yours."
Except Seth kind of goes wide at the end. The idea is that to be one of a tribe you should 'fit in', have something in common, and be able to contribute, which is energizing. So, if in the end 'they're not yours' is true, it probably wasn't your tribe in the first place.
I first came across Misty when someone on my Facebook page shared this video:
I will put a disclaimer here, Misty uses OMG a couple of times. Many don't have a problem with this, but some do, so here's a heads up in that area. I find her videos funny and encouraging.
The idea of a 'tribe' has been carried through many centuries and has been called by many names. It has been echoed best, in my opinion, by the phrase 'No man is an island'.
There are many instances in social media that show how one person's acts of kindness changes the world
around them. Like throwing a pebble in a puddle, or throwing a rock in a pond, one good act radiates out to those around them.
The self-evident truth of reaping and sowing comes home often at the most odd times. The book of Ecclesiastes has a place in my heart. Partly because it has so much wisdom, and also because it has so much hidden wisdom. The idea of 'if a tree fall toward the south or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there shall it be...' classic, just classic.
