Wounded and Whole

I'm not a psychiatrist, however, it appears to me alcoholics have a wound that won't heal. It doesn't have to be the same kind of wound in each person, nor the same size hole. But it won't heal.

And that may be the same with other addictions as well.

Most people have some unfillable hole, but they aren't sucked into addiction. I'm not sure if the problem is the size of the wound, or the weakness of the person.

It doesn't really matter which it is. The problem is learning to overcome.

I've heard it said that all people have a God sized hole, and only God will fill that hole. Some people try to fill it with bad habits and some try to fill it with good habits, and many try to protect it from being seen.

And as long as we live, our mission is to fill the God sized hole. It doesn’t matter how we try to hide or ignore the hole—It still drives us. The first step to healing it is to acknowledge it.

The alcoholic has a double whammy. The God sized hole won't get better with anything but God. Likewise their other wound won't be healed with anything except with God's help.

You can’t make it go away without the balm of Gilead.

And to learn to dance with who we are, to take the fragments of us and help others is quite a task.

Take the peace of God and remember most of us are broken people not trying to work a miracle, just trying to make a difference.

Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2) And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3) And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4) And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness."
