The Race Is Long
I've heard the phrase, "My life is my work, and my work is my life."
In some meanings that could be good. If a person means my LIFE as opposed to CAREER that can be good. But if the meaning is I spend twenty hours at work and I'm only home enough to sleep—not so good.
Career. What is a career? Is it different than 'work' or a 'job'? The last two definitions from Merriam Webster for the noun Career is:
3: a field for or pursuit of consecutive progressive achievement especially in public, professional, or business life. Washington's career as a soldier
4: a profession for which one trains and which is undertaken as a permanent calling. a career in medicine—often used before another noun such as a career diplomat
Some careers are about checking boxes while other careers set people up to draw the boxes. However we may view things, they sell coloring books because while many enjoy coloring in the pictures, not everyone is proficient at drawing the pictures.
'The journey is long,' isn't always about the time spent on the journey. It is important for everyone on the journey to push past perceived limitations—not all limitations are real.
What is the important question here? Is it “What’s required here?” Or is it “What's the opportunity here?” Two totally different questions.
When we open our eyes and look, it’s about contribution and forward motion; not simply what's required but also seeing opportunities.
Surround yourself with real people. People willing to encourage others to reach for the best they have in themselves because the journey, no matter how long, is worth it.
If you were to write a book and entitle it, The Journey, what would the story be?
Romans 15:1 "Now we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2) Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, unto edifying.
3) For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me. 4) For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.
5) Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus: 6) that with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7) Wherefore receive ye one another, even as Christ also received you, to the glory of God.
