Possibilities
Something I enjoy about this time of the year is the number of possibilities.
This morning as we were moving cows from one field to another was how fresh the air is and the amount of bird song. The birds were almost shouting joyfully at being back to their spring—summer home.
The above paragraph almost makes it sound like I was active in doing something. First I took my coffee out onto the deck to watch the cow moving escapade. But if I sit down, of course, I'm not going to see anything.
So, I decide I can take a (light) plastic chair and sit down on the drive. After lowering the chair onto the lawn with my cane, the next move is to get me down there.
Old Fuzzy did get some steps up on my deck so that it is no longer my balcony, but I've only used them once with help since there isn't a handrail.
Hmmm, well maybe I can hold on to the edge of the top of the deck and balance myself. That works alright for most of the steps and the snow shovel works for the other two steps.
I keep walking and I haul my light weight plastic chair down where I can be in the way if a cow should happen to wander up the drive instead of down the drive.
There you have it. I've gotten myself where I usually am, right in the way in case I need to be right in the way. Which is where I am usually, right in the way for better or worse. There's a wink that comes with that.
We've had more snow this year than normal, and the last few weeks we've had some nasty cold weather. This last couple of days the temperatures have warmed and we feel like we are living in a heat wave.
Even if the temperatures are only in the upper forties, almost fifties, life feels like it's on the upswing after a week in the below zero range.
Back then the only thing to do was bundle up and barrel on through till warmer breezes came your way. Now we can anticipate the flowers, blossoms and eventually gardens and fruits of our labors.
My mother-in-law had all sorts of pretty flowers and I haven't killed them all off yet. The iris and peony are favorites in the spring.
These two aren't spring flowers.
I'm wondering if any one can name these blooms? They are common heirloom varieties, and although not early spring, they are mid-spring plants.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 "For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: 2) a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3) a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4) a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5) a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6) a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7) a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8) a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
