Choice Opportunities
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” ― Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967
I like that quote, although I'm not sure Mr. Thompson and I would agree to what our living life to the fullest would be. That aside, life is meant to be lived and lived well.
I've come across another excellent post from Mr. Seth Godin. I thought I would share some highlights and perhaps his link again.
The title is Opportunity Costs Just Went Up
*Every choice has a price-if you eat at a buffet you can't eat everything. You only have room to eat so much-that's an opportunity cost.
*Opportunity cost is the key to making decisions. Once you know the value of the alternatives you're giving up, you can be smarter about what you're choosing to do.
*Time is finite. We only get the next hour once, then it's gone forever. So choices about how we spend or invest our time come with real opportunity costs.
A car with a bumper sticker that says, "I'd rather be surfing," tells us a lot about the driver (including the inconsistency of his or her actions). But it's proof we each of us wrestles with opportunity costs every day.
(So then) With that in mind, the cost of watching a cat video on YouTube is real indeed.
Our access to the world of learning and online resources means that the alternatives are far more valuable than they used to be.
*I will paraphrase a bit of what I believe Mr. Godin's point partially is here: Don't waste your precious time frittering it away. (Cat video) Find something useful to invest in. Like learning a new trade, or polishing your already learned talents. Taking classes, reading a book, use your time wisely for your betterment.
Now I'll pick back up with some of his final thoughts:
*Next week the choices you made at the buffet won't matter much, but if you learn a new skill, you own it forever.
*Human beings don't like thinking about opportunity costs.

As we human beings get older and approach infinity, we look back at some of the opportunity costs we've made and what we've traded our precious time for. The challenge then is even with our time running late, what will we do?
It is far far better to learn from where we've been and prepare for the reality of eternity and get prepared now.
1 Peter 4:15 "For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters: 16) but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this name. 17) For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18) And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear? 19) Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing unto a faithful Creator.
