Why Do We Do
Why do we do what we do?
Animals are creatures of habit. My sister has two 'stray cats' that she is responsible for feeding. One is Grover and the other is Cleocatra. The older one is tamed somewhat, but the other is only tamed enough that she knows when it's time to eat.
My sister will open the patio door and go back to prepare their dishes of food. They parade into the house, wait for her to finish preparation, then they lead the parade back out to the patio to eat.
They eat twice a day, and twice a day they sit and look into the house waiting. If the food is any late they become impatient. She describes it as 'tapping their feet'. Although in this situation it should be paws.
Humans are creatures of habit as well. The experts say if you can establish a routine for three weeks it's yours.
That is a good goal to shoot for, but I wonder why it's so much easier to establish a bad habit than a good one?
I would have no problem establishing the hot fudge Sundae every afternoon, as opposed to my carrot salad with coconut oil, vinegar, and salt every afternoon.
Not that I find the carrot salad unpleasant, I'm just not into the discipline of grating my carrot and mixing the dressing.
Much easier to scoop out the ice cream and smother it in hot fudge. Yummm
I have always seemed to confound the experts. Perhaps I'm just here to throw a stick in their cogs. I have begun many good habits ie. diets, exercise, supplements to name a few.
I've even gone beyond the three week period into months or years, only to wake up at some distant point and wonder when I stopped the routine.
Over twenty years ago—I've lost track of when I decided that I needed to read the Bible every day,but... When we first believed and obeyed the Word, our people were known as 'The People of the Book', referring to us and reading and Bible knowledge.
Somehow, sadly, many have forgotten that was the way it was. Many have drifted into complacency. When I saw this happening with my life, I knew it needed changed.
As I've aged I've also come closer to understanding the admonition to 'Pray without ceasing.' They say there are no atheists in a foxhole, and apparently my life seems to be one long drawn out foxhole...
