We're Gonna Die

I love Snoopy and Charlie Brown. They've been around for so long, most people can't remember when they weren't.

The cartoon is Charlie Brown and Snoopy sitting on a dock looking off at the horizon or lake. Charlie says to Snoopy, "One day we will die, Snoopy." To which Snoopy says, "Yes, but every other day we will live..."

The days pass. Some days they seem to fly like leaves in the wind, or as Job says:

Job 7:6 "My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, And are spent without hope."

16) I loathe my life; I would not live alway: Let me alone; for my days are vanity.

Job 9:25 "Now my days are swifter than a post: They flee away, they see no good, 26) They are passed away as the swift ships; As the eagle that swoopeth on the prey."

Yet, even during and after the trials and tribulations Job endures, he asserts:

Job 14:14 "If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my warfare would I wait, Till my release should come. 15) Thou wouldest call, and I would answer thee: Thou wouldest have a desire to the work of thy hands."

Job 19:25 "But as for me I know that my Redeemer liveth, And at last he will stand up upon the earth: 26) And after my skin, even this body, is destroyed, Then without my flesh shall I see God; 27) Whom I, even I, shall see, on my side, And mine eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger. My heart is consumed within me."

There is a reason Hebrew poetry is held up as some of the most beautiful, expressive poetry ever written. Yes, our days are swift. Swift as ships, swift as eagles that swoop.

When we acknowledge that we shall die, it opens up a whole new world. Like a contest that says, enter now and take advantage of this offer. It's for a limited time only...because our lives are for a limited time only. Live well today.

Psalms 27:4 "One thing have I asked of Jehovah, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of Jehovah, And to inquire in his temple. 5) For in the day of trouble he will keep me secretly in his pavilion: In the covert of his tabernacle will he hide me; He will lift me up upon a rock.
