Visions of God
What is your image of God? The Israelites tried to make Him into a golden calf...we know how that worked out for them. This picture of course, is Stonehenge, built by an ancient civilization.
The information on Google tells us, "The monument's purpose has been the subject of widespread speculation for centuries. Theories run the gamut, casting Stonehenge as anything from an ancient healing center to an alien landing site."
There is a trend to worship nature and call everything we do worship. Well, granted we may call many things worship, but that doesn't make it so. Or maybe it does depending on your object of worship, and your objective for worship.
There is no denying the wonders of creation. The Apostle Paul tells us in Acts 14:17 "And yet He left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness." Creation is God's witness that He is.
But a witness is like a footprint. You see the footprint and know that whatever made the footprint was there, but whatever it was, it isn't there any longer. No, nature, God's creation, is awe inspiring, but it only points to a wise, magnificent creator.
Herein lies the problem: What is your object of worship? Far too many people make their object of worship themselves. What makes them happy, what they want to do, etc.
If making yourself happy is your objective then this will work. If you want to become a better person, follow God, be saved and go to heaven...your following the wrong shepherd.
John 4:22 "Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews. 23) But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers. 24) God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
God is a Spirit. He is not nature, He is not ourself. He tells us in the Bible how to inherit eternal life. That's what we need to follow. Not a golden calf, not Buddha, not Calvin Klein...God and his Son, Jesus.
Psalms 8:3 "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4) What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? 9) O Jehovah, our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth!"
