Today and The Day After

Living two days at a time. Sounds difficult. Life is like that.

Christmas day—yesterday now, was bright and sunny. Today—the day after, is foggy, cloudy, somewhat drizzling and gray.

To me, it seems like a perfect day. A day to curl up in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea, some short bread, and a good book.

"I'm gonna go home and play some (new) games," the grandkids are talking amongst themselves after we've finished opening gifts. One of my daughters in love replied, "I'm gonna go home and play dead," (as in sound sleep).

To some that may not have been funny, but it was to the rest of us wives and mothers, and maybe even a couple of helpers. It is a long day on our holidays, but it's worth it.

On Christmas we've got little people and gift opening at the different homes. Then preparing for 'the meal' and a second round of opening presents when we come to 'Grandpa and Grandma's'.

Everyone is supposed to show up about one-ish for lunch at our house. Which means some show up between one thirty and two, and the rest dribble in, and everyone is present by three-ish.

We pray and eat when the main meal is in attendance. Yesterday the ham was late, so we didn't eat until everyone had arrived.

When I pull the first of the dinner rolls out of the oven those who've made it earlier grab a 'hot-n' (which are usually biscuits, but are rolls in this case). They grab a hot-n and a stick of butter.

Apparently my love of butter has permeated the entire family, born or married.

I believe the thing that makes it work in our group is most of us are pretty laid back. I don't know of any one of us that wants to run someone's life other than our own.

I can honestly say I love my family and we pray for each of them daily and sometimes more than once a day. They struggle on different issues, as do I and Old Fuzzy. It's hard to throw trash at someone you're praying for.

Like the old doctor who one day took his wealthy patient for a drive. He was across from a cemetery when he stopped the car. "Mr. Benson, I keep telling you to slow down. You keep telling me you can't, you have things you have to do. Well, I'm asking you, how many of the folks in there were 100% finished with everything they wanted to get done?"

I didn't get everything done I wanted to either, but the day came and went. We had plenty and we had a great time. That's what was important. I have a great family. Not a perfect family, but pretty close.

It is my prayer that God will bless them and draw them closer to Him always. That at the end of time we will be together forever serving our Master.

Romans 8:37 "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38) For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39) nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
