Sunshine
Why is a day with sunshine more appealing? As the Arabian proverb says, 'All sunshine makes a desert.' But that doesn't seem to hinder people from wanting everyday to be sunny.
Lately there has been a rush to bash history. People rushing to pull down statues, for instance, because they find them 'offensive'.
A few years ago there was a library or school, maybe a school library banning Mark Twain because he wrote offensive stuff.
This year it was Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House Series that was offensive. She told the tale of some of the 'entertainment' using 'blackface'.
Another instance told of when she said there were no 'people' in the area. Someone brought this to her attention while she was still alive.
They were wondering if she meant that Indians were not people. She was aghast. Of course that's not what was meant. Since she and her family were in that picture would it not have included them as 'no people'? Her stories indicated that Laura was somewhat fascinated by the Native Americans.
What she wrote was about the life and times she lived in. It was about the things that happened to her and the people around her.
In today's world if you don't kowtow to the pc culture you are sure to bring down the wrath of the establishment.
This culture doesn't allow for variance. It doesn't entitle you to have an opinion, or anyone's opinion for that matter. It doesn't allow for truth.
It only permits what it deems acceptable. The truth is that human nature varies from person to person. That people fluctuate from day to day and race to race.
In my world if you lay out a feast, especially a buffet style meal, it is quite acceptable to (after a prayer) start the meal by saying, "Ya'll just help yourself, now."
When we were in Quebec a few years ago we found out that in their society that would be rude. Like telling your company, "Get up and serve yourself, your arm isn't broken..."
There are many things to be thankful for in our country. Like not all days must be sunny to be enjoyable, we can enjoy diversity. Allowing others to be who they are.
Some other blessing to give thanks for is the love of God, the love of friends and the love of family.
Here's to wishing you a happy Thanksgiving Day and a beautiful holiday season. We are anticipating a Christmas season with all its beauty and wonder.
1 Peter 5:10 "But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11) To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."
