Distracted
We were looking to buy a house. The realtor asked 'what kind of home are you particularly interested in?" We had been torn between buying a new home, or finding an older home with a front porch and a porch swing.
"Well, it's like this," the agent said, "when you buy a new home it's new. No glitches. You can order what you want in the home. New furnace, carpet, stuff like that. You pay a higher price for that."
"If on the other hand, you buy an older home you take what is there. You have to be aware it may need some updates. It maybe cheaper, but either way it has it's upsides and downsides. It's a trade off."
It's a trade off. Life has many of those trade offs, and they usually don't announce themselves. They have a habit of popping up like a Jack in the box.
As you travel down the path of life you come to a fork in the road. A choice, a decision jumps out like the Jack out of the box, and it must be made.
If you don't have an idea what you want out of life, it is too easy to make distracted decisions. You've made a trade off but was it a good one or not?
In writing a novel we are told to have a plan and know where and what the point is of each chapter. I don't know how my sister made her decision to go to business school after high school. But she did, and she did well.
My course wasn't so clear cut. I graduated from high school came back and lived with family until I got a job as a waitress in a local restaurant. Changed jobs and in less than a year married.
I believe strongly in the presence of good and evil in this world. We aren't always aware of it, and it is easy to be lulled into a false sense of security.
Providence of God? What if I after graduation I hadn't bought my Greyhound bus ticket back home?
What if my aunt hadn't helped me find a job and a sleeping room in town? That's where I met Old Fuzzy (yes, we were both young then so he wasn't old fuzzy...).
Since I didn't drive nor did I own a car. I was always looking for a ride to church. After a few 'dates' I asked Mr. Fuzzy if he would give me a ride to church.
In critiques of writing, on occasion paragraphs, sentences, or even words must be rearranged to be in a better order. Sometimes our life might have been better with a rearranging of order, but that doesn't happen.
Satan wants to keep us distracted. We kept looking for what our talent was and what we wanted to do in life. We wandered around so long, we kind of woke up where we are today.
There is a song, 'Yesterday When I Was Young'. The song writer was Charles Aznavour, and I remember it being sung by Roy Clark.
There isn't a correlation so much as a warning. Life passes so quickly. Our oldest Grandson (25) married this year. Our oldest Granddaughter also married this fall. We have a gamut of grandchildren, and eventually will have great grandchildren. For some reason they all are growing up—that's the way it works. It's kind of a trade off as well.
Psalms 148:11 Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth: 12) Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children: 13) Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.
