A number of years ago Old Fuzzy and I were interested in a greenhouse business. We flew to Florida to tour a greenhouse system and listen to the inventor of said system. We watched his videos and leafed through his written materials along with a number of other interested potential customers.
We asked questions and considered options. Some of our fellow consumers signed up for the system then and there. Some like us, went home looking for financial monies, and we eventually bought into the system.
We were young, barely thirty, didn't stop to consider some older, perhaps wiser people's input when we did our preliminary research. And with that said, anyone reading this knows probably where the venture went.
It could have worked if... The system owner/seller had over-priced his product, and there was no money to regroup the project. That's a nutshell analogy.
Our clue that something was amiss came when we were putting up the greenhouse structure. We had the outside structure up and Old Fuzzy and the boys were shooting and leveling the starter/grower boxes etc. on the inside. I'm not sure if we had any plants in the structure yet.
We got several calls from other prospective buyers (of the system) asking how it was working for us...I thought 'what in the world?' we don't even have this up and going yet. What do you mean how's it working?
The second clue was every time the guy sold some of these greenhouse systems the next price was higher. The final straw was when I got a call from a handicapped woman from the southwestern U. S.
How was it working for us? She had been assured that the 'hands-off horticulture' should work well for her... As I've said before, if you don't want an honest answer don't ask me.
In all of the few calls I'd gotten I'd been honest, but we were a bit further along by the time we got to the handicapped woman. We never received anymore calls from prospective buyers. I assume my honesty was overwhelming.
There are quite a few con men and women out there in the wide world. We've found a few, and that one was a doozey. It had some good ideas, but...
In most of these things I've found there is at least one question. That one question is what you could call the deal breaker. It's the question that gets to the heart of the matter.
I've noticed that most people never get to that
question; they have the wrong question. Of course each area has its own question or set of questions.
Some people live for the weekend, or so they say/ think. Why choose only two days of the week? That means out of a year, 365 days, or 52 weeks with a two day week end, that would equal 104 days in a year. Out of 365 days people will settle for 104 days to live for?
One of my goals is to live so that those around me live each day as if that is the day they live for. Or put another way, they look forward to living 365 days a year.
There are a number of things to consider. History lesson here: at one time 97% of Americans were farmers. The other % were craftsmen/women providing services for farmers.
We have heard about 'the Great Depression' of the 1930s. We know how difficult those times were for a large part of our population, and compounded by the Dust Bowl of that same era.
Many people don't realize there have been numerous 'depressions' in the American history. Here's a list of thirteen of the worst in American history: 1797, 1807, 1821, panic of 1837, 1857, 1873, 1893, 1907, depression of 1920-1921, Great Depression 1929-1941 (lasted eleven years and 8 months), recession 1973-1975, recession early 1980s, recession March-2008 until 2017.
This was taken from an article written September 9, 2010. The ending statement from the article at that time was: "It remains to be seen whether we are in the midst of a recovery or if this is just the eye of the storm." This is then, in hind site. America suffered terrible unemployment from 2008 till in 2017, with people dropping out of the search force and becoming permanently unemployed until, as we can see, with the changing of the guard we are now in recovery. Here's the link I took my 'history' from, and I'll continue this next time.

Psalms 27:11 "Teach me thy way, O Jehovah; And lead me in a plain path, Because of mine enemies. 12) Deliver me not over unto the will of mine adversaries: For false witnesses are risen up against me, And such as breathe out cruelty. 13) I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of Jehovah In the land of the living. 14) Wait for Jehovah: Be strong, And let thy heart take courage; Yea, wait thou for Jehovah."
