Brett Likes Beer

I like chocolate, avocados, cheeses of all kinds, egg plant, spaghetti squash, tea...and did I mention chocolate? I don't like beer though. My Grandmother had lots of clever sayings, and she had one that covered this situation. "Each to their notion said the old lady that kissed the cow."

I noticed the other day that in contrast to my daughter's own first birthday cake and party, her baby was spoon fed her cake. My daughter's picture of her first birthday cake: the cake was chocolate and my daughter was eating it herself...the cake was all over her highchair tray, in her hair, on her face and hands. In short it was all over. She was smiling, eating cake, and looking quite pleased with herself.

Not for daughter's current baby. Baby was very neat and feeding was precise. Apparently mamma doesn't want her missy to be messy.

Life gets that way though—Messy. Another memory from my daughter. For her graduation she had a poem. I don't remember the name but it had something about how she liked taking detours down country roads to find what was at the end. Or she liked what we sometimes called the scenic routes.

Problem is scenic routes don't go with goals. Goals go with plan A or plan B or so forth. If you are a painter looking for great scenes to paint maybe a scenic route is good, but they aren't good for planning. They call it serendipity.

I, of course, being a master at multi-tasking, pretend to be able to plan A all the way through the alphabet And have goals. Honestly, I'm just joking myself.

Having goals and attaining goals are two different things. My advice has been when you're young figure out where you want to be at the end and get there at whatever the cost (within decent bounds that is) as soon as possible.

For instance, when younger I wanted to plan on having enough savings (or something) so that we could retire and live off the interest from those monies. I thought about CDs, but I found you would need beaucoup amount of money. Starting would help in arriving, but that wasn't a viable idea. So, I looked further.

Late fifties I was finally pointed in the right direction, but sadly things went downhill too quickly after that. So, make sure you're young. I'm still petitioning for my six million dollars then it won't matter what I've got for goals.

The first six million dollars is a given. Some of the other goals is starting a Christian Academy. One of the reasons young people today are not doing well is their teachers, their schools, and our society is out of sync.

God's Truth has been booted out of our society. Public schools teach/indoctrinate their students with what the government wants them to teach. And we wonder what is wrong with our young people. We wonder why so many of our young people are accepting socialism.

One of the few things that stood between total dumbed down children was the parents that fought and won the right to homeschool. Homeschool is not the answer to all the problems, but it gave parents the right to take more control of their children and what those children learn. It gave public education competition so that parents don't automatically have to play along with the fiddler or go to jail.

However, it is important that children get a good foundation. That's where a Christian Academy comes in. My Buddy and I have discussed ideal education. His ideal is that along with the academic lessons, children from a young age ought to learn marshal arts and something along the lines of ROTC, eventually learning firearms training. I've always entertained the idea of music and equestrian training as well.

That is my dream, my prayer, my goal. To give others the chance to be better people with happier lives.
