First, Do No Harm...
' Theirs was not to make reply, Theirs was not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die.' Alfred Lord Tennyson
This of course, was from The Charge of the Light Brigade, written by Tennyson about the 600 soldiers at the battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War of the year 1854.
It depicts the following of orders even in the face of not understanding the reason for the orders. When boiled down this is a soldiers poem of honor and the valor of following orders. Of doing what's right.
In our lives what do we consider honor? Doing the right thing? Serving your term in the military? Serving humankind? There are several questions that come to mind.
Logic. Some people are logical by birth; some people become logical by training. Occasionally I listen to people like Ben Shapiro, Dinesh D'Sousa, Newt Gingrich. These people live in different parts of the universe, in other words they have different perspectives.
These people are very disciplined. I don't know how they got that way. Maybe they had quite a few sessions of the cookie on the table, but probably not.
The little amount of logic I have (and there are several who would question putting me and the word logic in the same room) but what I do have comes through study and prayer. When a question comes to me through whatever medium, I study it from all sides as I go about my daily tasks. I turn it over and over and look at it from different sides. And I pray over it.
Sometimes I get more questions than answers, but that's alright. The questions give me sharper answers in the end. Many is the time I wonder at the struggles of our lives. A good rule to live by would be, 'first, do no harm'.
Some people, be they male or female, are like drama queens. Or perhaps dogs in a pack. A human being in a mob will do unspeakable things. On a personal level they would never do these things. Put them in a group of evil doers and it's vicious and unspeakable
what vile things they will do.
When going through this life the advice I would give is the same 'golden rule' we were taught to follow when we were children. We summed it up as, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
I want to live in peace. I want good things to come to me.
Not only do I strive to be peaceable, but I don't like to be in constant turmoil and hurtful situations. So, first, do no harm.
Proverbs 11:27 "He that diligently seeketh good seeketh favor; But he that searcheth after evil, it shall come unto him."
And as Proverbs above says, you get what you search for.
Hosea 8:7 "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: he hath no standing grain; the blade shall yield no meal; if so be it yield, strangers shall swallow it up."
If you sow the wind, you will reap the whirlwind. You won't like it.
Like keeping my words sweet because I never know which ones I may have to eat, I try to keep what I sow good. If what I sow comes back to haunt me...I want it to be good, like the angels of heaven.
Galatians 6:7 "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
