Life Art

It was claimed in a documentary (years ago now) that when a piece of art is damaged it is believed that the remaining piece was the important part of the sculpture.

Not being a bona fide sculpture I can't vouch for this as being true, but I have used that as a lens for some parts of life.

Last year when my cook stove went haywire, caught on fire, and baked my pan of brownies in five minutes, and then I had to use baking soda to put out the flames, and then I got a smidgen of baking soda on a small piece of the brownies, and...

Well, perhaps you remember the story, and the important part of the ordeal was saved. We threw out the stove and ate all but the smidgen of brownies. Hard to ruin good brownies. I think someone might have eaten even the little piece with the baking soda on it when the rest were gone.

When a person is young in the bud of life they see things through that lens. Even as a young person family was important to me. Other things were important as well such as God. God was and still is the most important aspect in my life, indeed in my husband and I's life.

Because of our faith we try to be honest, trustworthy, and genuine. Are we perfect? In the honest, trustworthy and genuine points we are consistent, but we still have rough spots.

Don't ask me an opinion if you don't want my honest opinion. No matter how hard I try if I think your hairstyle looks like you got your head stuck in a blender...I might try to be gentle, but the truth will come out.

Like I used to say about my youngest son 'he opens his mouth and things come out'. He could be bluntly honest. Sometimes humorous as when he told a fellow person, 'that's the ugliest tie I've ever seen', and realized what he'd just said. He was coming into his intelligent phase, when he added, 'but if anyone can carry it off, you can'.

I've had moments like that as well. More moments than I care to remember. A frequent visitor to church was telling his daughter-in-law about a book he'd bought about men's health that told how good peanut butter was for men.

The phrase peanut butter flipped a button in my mind about an article I'd read about a veterinary who gave dogs peanut butter before giving them shots because 'it kept their mouth shut'.

I was standing beside his wife when he made his statement, and without thinking when he said peanut butter was good for men, I inadvertently said, 'yeah, it keeps their mouth shut'.

Thankfully, the dear woman had an excellent sense of humor. I was so embarrassed, I added, yes, and I think I'm going to start putting a small jar in my purse for myself...

I was reminding my dear son of our shared ailment the other day. I told him I had his talent, and he said "What? You have MY talent? I think I inherited it from YOU. I've just improved on it."

One of the things I cherish in this life is family, friends, and being able to find something to lift trials and difficulties out of the hardship mode.

Some people think life is supposed to be easy. Without the fire the metal is not hardened. Without trials we are not prepared.

1 Peter 1:6 "Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, ye have been put to grief in manifold trials, 7) that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ:"
