Distractions
We were watching Forged in Fire on the History Channel. The blade-smiths have advanced through the first round of competition. In the second round they are to take the rudimentary blade from the first round and improve it.
They are to put a handle on it, and if time permits polish and finish their weapon blade to a greater extent. In order to make their work better they needed to balance.
In several cases the problems on the first round needed soothed out and really needed to be addressed more thoroughly. Some contestants should have used a simple handle in order to spend more time on the important blade, but they were focused on an ornate handle.
In listening to the judges comments they pointed this out on occasion. This reminds me of how easily people become caught up in the trivial and let the important escape unaddressed.
I am as guilty as anyone of doing this stupid thing. I'll work for much longer than I should on a project only to realize it wasn't where I should have been focused. I"ll look at the clock and notice I've allowed Satan to suck my precious time away. I've focused on the wrong thing.
Life is a time thief. We are given twenty-four golden hours every day. Making a list of items to do for the day is almost a must. It helps guide where and what you want to do, and it also is comforting to look back and have a list of things done.
We are given so much that we should be thankful for, but too often we are distracted by what we don't have.
Luke 12:45 "But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46) the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the unfaithful."
