Once Again Proving The Laws of Nature Need Not Apply...
A broken tail bone, badly sprained ankle, possible broken ribs...you would think I would get to the point where I realize that what goes up must come down, or will come down, or...
You would think I would at least admit the laws of nature do apply even to me. Then of course I remember one of my 'go to' Psalms
"I have been young, and now am old; ...." (Psalms 37:25 ASV)
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” ― Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967
Monopoly is not my favorite game. I have several games I like playing, but in very few am I bold and a risk taker. In life on the other hand, even though I would never consider myself as a 'bold, risk taker' I am prone to stupid and impulsive. Some people have likened me to Anne of Green gables, able to wade into the middle of chaos at a moment's notice. I can guarantee that I won't arrive at the grave in a pretty, and well preserved body.
In the long run, when you think on life in general I like the idea from Leo Rosten: In September 1965 Leo Rosten published an essay titled “The Myths by Which We Live” in “The Rotarian” magazine, and he included an instance of the saying: Finally there is the myth which gives me the greatest pain: the myth that the purpose of life is happiness, and that you ought to have fun, and that your children ought to have fun. Where was it written that life is so cheap? Where was it written that life is, or should be, or can ever be free of conflict and effort and deprivation and sacrifice?……the purpose of life is not to be happy at all. It is to be useful, to be honorable. It is to be compassionate. It is to matter, to have it make some difference that you lived.
And that, my friends and readers is what I want to leave you with. I will end this short endeavor with the thoughts from Mae West: "They say you only live once, but if you do it right, once is all you need."
Bon Appetit, have a great week.
