One Size Rarely Fits All
So these last few weeks have scooted by like our last paycheck. This month is over half way gone, and as I've lamented recently, soon our year will be as well. Two things about a person that never stop growing are ears and noses. I've not figured out what the Lord is trying to get across to us. We should do more listening which could be why we have two ears and only one mouth, but bigger ears and noses? Surely we need to keep our nose in our own business and out of other people's lives? I am reminded of the scripture:
"Oh taste and see that Jehovah is good: Blessed is the man that taketh refuge in him." (Psalms 34:8 ASV)
I know some marvelous cooks. When I was researching on France and French cooking for my novel, Gene's Story I did some French cuisine and although I'm certainly not an accomplished chef, all I can say is wow, I Love French cooking. But still when I observe the beauties around me in God's creation I am amazed at everything God has made, yet I wonder as in Psalms 34:8, why 'taste'? The senses, including taste, are also part of God's blessings.
Some people would think we were crazy for living where we do. We drive ten miles plus to the nearest grocery store, and almost that far to the nearest town with a convenience store. The view out here is forever, and some nights we can hear the coyotes howling and yapping at each other. The moon comes up and washes the landscape in its glow, and if you aren't familiar with this world it can be frightening. Sometimes even if you are familiar with it, it can be frightening. But this is where we choose to live, and for us it works.
We have had some very cold weather the first of this year, but now it's just uncomfortable with the prediction of freezing rain, sleet and rain. I'm voting for thirty degree temps with light snowfall. I would rather not have bitterly cold weather, but rain this time of year seems like an abomination. We heat with a wood furnace and the furnace at full throttle had a hard time keeping the house warm. If one could call 65 degrees warm.
Tales from our past could include the year at an old farm house down the road from where we live now. It has been taken down many years ago, but still lives in infamy in memory. There wasn't any insulation in the two story structure. We heated with wood there as well, but it was a beautiful 'Fisher' stove. I did like that stove, but there were no vents to the upstairs. The only heat that would get upstairs was via the stair way. It got cold up there, and that's where we all slept. One year we decided to shop around for a waterbed. The salesman looked at me like I lived in a different world when I asked him if the waterbed heater would keep the water from freezing in an unheated room.
Tonight as my husband leaves to do evening chores the temperature is freezing, there is a cold mist that is turning to an ice/snow mix. It's a good night to be in by the fire enjoying a hot cup of coffee, tea, or maybe even hot chocolate. We will have left-overs, sloppy joe sandwiches, for supper when he returns, God willing.
